Telling Stories with Photos on the Cave Wall

Communication evolved from Lascaux drawings to text and back to images again (but much better resolution! and with Creative Commons!). Come explore concepts of Web 2.0 Storytelling (http://cogdogroo.wikispaces.com/50+Ways) and engage in some creative activities to get you thinking visually by telling a story in images only. We will see what we can create as stories from a collection of photos that conference participants submitted ahead of time and examine the processes that go into the decision making... and perhaps play a round of 5 Card Nancy.

The activity I am planning will draw upon a pool of photos I want to ask all conference participants to share before the conference. I willl post on the conference ning site a request for people to take/share up to 6 their own original photos from the following categories: (1) Person alone (2) 2 or more people interacting; (3) close up of a person expressing an emotion; (4) a vehicle (6) a public place; (5) an everyday object; (6) an animal.. I will ask people to contribute photos either via Facebook or Ning (am looking for the best recommendation for doing this) Participants in the workshop will create 5 photo stories (no text) by choosing from this pool (doing so in either a custom web site I will build or in wikispaces)-- these final stories will be shared as links form the main conference site. 5 Card Nancy http://www.7415comics.com/nancy/ is a fascinating activity in story creation using old comis developed by Scott McCloud; I may try to run that as an activity or create a web site that does the same thig with the submitted photos.
